Arts & Crafts Era
Young Dard (Dard III) lives in the family home, Mountain House, overlooking Chillicothe. He purchased one of the last remaining canal warehouses to house Dard Hunter Studios.

You've never heard of Dard Hunter? Bet you've heard of the color "Hunter Green." Yep. Grandpa Dard is to thank for that lovely shade. There's Salvaged slate from demolished southern Ohio schools available through Dard Hunter Studios - www.dardhunter.comso much to say about Grandpa Dard that I'll let you find out more on your own and instead tell you that our Dard is the nicest guy I've met - ever. I'm a great fan if you can't tell, but not in a Kathy Bates/Misery sort of way.

He has an amazing inventory of tiles, pottery, prints, china, and much more for sale, so check it out!

The Big Bear sign, a Chillicothe landmark and sentinel for Central Center Shopping Center for 51 years has a new home at the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio.  The sign is old-school fabrication measuring approximately 8 feet tall and 12 feet long.  Signs like this are a thing of the past and constructing a similar sign would cost big bucks today.

Indoor Fountains
Depending on the size you choose, your dog may drink from it or your cat (like mine) may find it a fun place to play, but an indoor fountain might be just what you need to see you through the long, bleak, cold winter ahead.

There are lots of choices in ready-made indoor fountains or you could put your excess energy to work creating your own from bits and pieces of whatever you may have lying about. You could use old pots and pans or an old table lamp, ceramic flower pots, unused dishes, or perhaps a more industrial look by using old car or bicycle parts. Whether you choose a "plug and play" model or create your own, the soothing sound of an indoor fountain is said to bring good chi (positive energy) into your home according to Feng Shui authorities.

Are You Looking?
Are you looking for warehouse space? Cross-docking? Rail access? Land for site development? Yes, I know this doesn't sound like it has anything to do with architectural salvage, but my friends Mark and Tammy own Schooley Station Industrial Park, a 438 acre compond with several buildings that total a whopping 180,000 square feet of warehouse space, some with rail access. Mead paper owned the property for years and years and the Navy built the place as a bomb production facility, so there's a historical element as well. A friend who toured the place recently, said it reminded him of Stalag 13. It's also where Scioto Architectural Salvage has finally found a home.

Cal Lane Shovels

Cal Lane Shovels - permission by Foley Gallery and Cal Lane

These are real shovels!  I am totally amazed at the intricate designs she creates using a torch and love the delicate designs on such a masculine tool.  If you're interested in purchasing a shovel (they come in sets of 3), Cal says she'll be working on more soon.

Flashy Collars
My dog Hank loves to patrol the back yard at night but have you ever tried finding a black dog in the dark?   Now he wears a glowing red L.E.D. collar that can also be set to flash.  I will tell you that I bought 5 of these before I got one that worked more than 3 minutes.  But the guys and gals at NiteIze (www.niteize.com) were great and finally got one to me that works all the time.  I'm also a big fan of their univeral phone holster.
